Easily customize the 602LAN SUITE Content Filter to fit your needs
The 602LAN SUITE Content Filter is a flexible Internet filtering tool that dynamically inspects, categorizes and blocks web sites. It uses artificial intelligence technology called Active Content Recognition (ACR) to decide, in real-time, if the content falls into one of 22 categories (e.g. sex, gambling, shopping, etc.). It also includes a Blacklist & Whitelist function to provide a completely customizable URL filtering solution for your network.
Blacklist an uncategorized web site
Using the Content Filter blacklist, you can easily block a URL that is not categorized by one of the included categories. When a site is added to the Content Filter blacklist, it is immediately blocked, regardless of the content. Additionally, blacklisted items are not analyzed by the Content Filter, which will increase performance. To add a site to the blacklist, follow these steps:
- Open 602LAN SUITE, click Settings and then click Advanced Configuration.
- Click the Content Filter tab, then click the Blacklist Rules tab.
- Click the Add rule button.
- Click the Add button next to the Filter access to these web pages (URLs) box, then type
the URL of the web site you would like to block. Click OK. - Click the Add Hosts button, then select Any address and click OK.
- Click OK.
- Click Save.

NOTE: We recommend you use wildcards such as “*.somedomain.com”, as this will block all subdomains, such as “forum.somedomain.com” and “secure.somedomain.com” in addition to “www.somedomain.com”.
Whitelist a categorized web site
There may come a time when you need to allow access to a Content Filter categorized site. For example, you may wish to allow your users to access CNN (www.cnn.com), but block access to other news sites. Sites listed on the whitelist are always allowed, regardless of the content and will not be analyzed by the Content Filter. To add a site to the whitelist, follow these instructions:
- Open 602LAN SUITE, click Settings and then click Advanced Configuration.
- Click the Content Filter tab, then click the Whitelist Rules tab.
- Click the Add rule button.
- Click the Add button next to the Don’t filter access to these web pages (URLs) box, then type the URL of the web site to which you would like to permanently allow access. Click OK.
- Click the Add Hosts button, then select Any address and click OK.
- Click OK.
- Click Save.

NOTE: As with the Blacklist, we recommend you use wildcards such as “*.somedomain.com”, as this will allow access to all subdomains, such as “forum.somedomain.com” and “secure.somedomain.com” in addition to “www.somedomain.com”.
