Monitor employee Internet usage with ActiveReports

The Internet can be a valuable resource for finding information on virtually any subject imaginable. This includes subjects that are inappropriate for work and sites that can distract your users, which results in a loss of valuable time. ActiveReports makes monitoring your network Internet Access and adding inappropriate sites to the Site Access filter a snap.

Analyzing the log file

In order to view the statistics, you must first process the log file(s):

  1. Open 602LAN SUITE 2004, then click Settings, then Advanced Configuration.
  2. Click the ActiveReports tab.
  3. Click the Analyze button.
  4. Select the date range for which you wish to generate stats for.
  5. Make sure that All files (*.*) is selected and enter 1 into the bytes field.
  6. Click Run to begin processing.

ActiveReports: Generate Statistics

Your statistics are now being generated. When completed, you will be presented with both a web page view and an Interactive Analysis view. If you would like to view the Web statistics again, you may do so by pointing your web browser to http://LANSUITEIP/admin/stat/ where “LANSUITEIP” is the IP address or domain name of your 602LAN SUITE server. The WWW server MUST be active to access this page.

Viewing Reports and adding sites to the Site Access Filter

Once you have generated the reports, you can view a variety of information regarding your users’ Internet access usage. To view specific sites your users are accessing and add them to the Site Access filter, do the following:

  1. From the Interactive Analysis view, click the HTTP requests tab.
  2. If you would like to view the sites a specific user has been accessing, click the User drop-down list and select the specific user’s IP address. You may select the - All LAN - option to view all of the sites your users have been accessing.
  3. In the domain list, click the site you wish to prohibit access to, then click the Add domain into prohibited ones.. button.
  4. You can also add individual URLs you wish to prohibit by double-clicking them from the list below the Domains.

ActiveReports: Block a site

NOTE: ActiveReports is paid add-on to 602LAN SUITE 2004. It can also show the amount of mail users have been receiving, how many spam and virus messages were blocked, and much more. To purchase ActiveReports, click here.
