Restrict Access to the Internet with Proxy Authentication

Do your employees waste time on the Internet? Have you ever wanted to restrict someone from accessing the Internet but not revoke the privilege for the rest of the network? With 602Pro LAN SUITE’s Proxy Authentication, you can.

Configure the Proxy

First, we need to configure the proxy server to require authentication. This will require each 602Pro LAN SUITE user to enter a valid username and password to access the proxy server. Do the following to activate authentication:

  1. Launch 602Pro LAN SUITE.
  2. Click on Settings and select Advanced Configuration.
  3. Click the Proxy tab.
  4. Check the check box next to Authentication Required*.
  5. Click OK.

Proxy Tab

* NOTE: If you have the SOCKS proxy enabled, make sure you have the option Prohibit HTTP and FTP connections over SOCKS proxy checked. If this option is not checked and the SOCKS proxy is enabled, any SOCKS compatible browser can easily bypass the HTTP proxy without authentication.

Configure the User(s)

By default, all users are allowed access to the proxy, so now we must tell 602Pro LAN SUITE what users to restrict from accessing the web. This is done in the properties for each user:

  1. Click Settings, Advanced Configuration in 602Pro LAN SUITE.
  2. Select the Users tab.
  3. Click the username of the user you would like to disable proxy access for then click the Properties button.
  4. Uncheck the the User may use proxy option.
  5. Click OK
