| Print2PDF Server Edition can be deployed over a network in three different ways: client-server, Terminal Services, or a
Terminal Services Farm. Each way effects how the Print2PDF print driver is distributed to the user and how the client licenses
are consumed. |
Licensing limitations |
- If any part of your network is segmented (physically or geographically) and you cannot 'see' the printer from a client, you will need to purchase another server license for this segment.
- To prevent a license violation, you MUST limit access to the Print2PDF printer via user rights if you purchase a license that is smaller than your current network user amount.
- The Print2PDF printer can be shared from the server ONLY. Sharing a shared printer is NOT allowed.
|
Standard client-server usage (per user) |
| Using this method, Print2PDF Server Edition is installed on a Windows 2000/XP/2003 computer and shared with File and
Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. A dedicated print server is not neccessary since the Print2PDF printer is converted
to a local printer after installation on a client. This is perfect for installation on mobile computers since future network
connections are not required. The Print2PDF printer can be installed on clients using the 'Add a printer' dialog or through
a simple login script (e.g. rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /in \\server\print2pdf). A license is consumed for each installed
Print2PDF client (user). If you add the Print2PDF printer to 25 computers, you will need a 25 user license. |
 |
Terminal Services usage (concurrent) |
| Using this method, Print2PDF Server Edition is installed directly on a Windows 2000/2003 Server with Terminal Services.
The Print2PDF printer can be used by connected clients as long as the user rights are set on the printer to allow access. A
license is consumed for each connected user. If you have 100 users in your organization, but only 25 concurrent Terminal
Services users, you will need a 25 user license. |
 |
Terminal Services farm usage (per user + concurrent) |
| Using this method, Print2PDF Server Edition is installed directly on one (1) Windows 2000/2003 Server with Terminal Services
and shared to other servers in the farm. The Print2PDF printer can be used by connected clients as long as the user rights on
the printer allow access. A license is consumed for each connected server in the farm and each connected user. If you have
150 users in your organization, 6 servers in the farm, but only 95 concurrent Terminal Services users, you will need a 100 user
license. |
